It was heartbreak for the early breakaway on stage 6 of the Tour de Suisse, with three riders who spent greater than 180km off the entrance being caught within the closing kilometre by the dash groups, with Jordi Meeus (Purple Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) powering to the victory in Neuhausen am Rheinfall.
Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ), Harry Sweeny (EF Schooling-EasyPost) and Mauro Schmid (Jayco AlUla) made up the break that just about made it, with the Swiss champion Schmid the final man standing after a valiant effort by the trio to attempt to keep forward.
